Jeff Somers is the Worship & Communication Pastor at Lewisville Baptist Church in Moncton, New Brunswick (Canada). Born and raised in this very church, he has been serving there in a variety of capacities for almost a decade. He also spent some time on staff as Worship Director at West Vancouver Baptist Church in the early 2000s.
A graduate of Atlantic Baptist University (now Crandall University), Jeff has been involved in music most of his life. Playing drums in a ‘Christian rock band’ throughout his teenage years really whet his appetite for what happens when a person uses his or her musical gifts for God’s glory. During his time at ABU it became apparent that God’s call on Jeff’s life was in leading worship. He began serving at Lewisville and founded a young-adult worship event called “The Spot“, which met monthly for 10 years before retiring in 2010.
Jeff has also had a variety of opportunities to lead worship outside the local church as part of “Jeff Somers Band”. Along with leading regularly at The Spot, JSB released a full-length album entitled “The Origin of Moonlight” which garnered them a number 1 and a top 10 single on Canadian Christian radio, and saw them nominated for 2 GMA Canada Covenant Awards. JSB has had opportunities to lead in a variety of places across North America from Canada’s east coast, Quebec, and Ontario, to New England, to Texas and back and has seen them share the stage with the likes of Starfield, Leeland, Geoff Moore and The Newsboys.
“WorshipPeriod.com is the culmination of everything I am and have to give. I’m passionate about the local church and will serve her in some capacity ’til the day I die. This website is my attempt to share anything I have to offer with regard to worship, creativity and leadership – some of it by gifting, blessing and success…much more of it by tough lessons, mistakes, scars and heaps of grace. I don’t claim to be an expert or the best at what I do, and I’m clear that many folks who’ll read this will be more gifted and experienced than I. I’m just here to offer what I can in hopes that it will add some value to the journey of other worshippers and creators. I know that the lessons we learn and the deep water God takes us through come with principles to be learned and shared, and I’m here to share mine. I’ll share what I can, from the theoretical down to the practical. My hope is that somehow God will use me in some small way to build His church and it’s worshippers and leaders for His glory alone.” (Jeff Somers)
Jeff is married to Andrea (Garland), and they have 2 dogs & 2 cats.
